cannes red carpet kick off 2011

The kick off of Cannes Film Festival fashion to me appeared hit and miss. The classic dresses completely being the hit in my eyes whilst the trend led ones were bizarre and often more of a miss, surprisingly.



The strapless Gucci Couture collection dress that Salma Hayek donned was stunning. The simple shape and design the hugged to her figure perfectly emphasised her natural beauty. The champagne, grey colour suited Salama's skin tone and proved how the colour blocking trend may very much be in fashion but classic is classic for a reason. Without being too boring, the pleated train of the gown gave enough of an up to date feel without being too OTT. Bang on and a yay, for me!



Whilst Rachel McAdams for me is the epitome of gorgeousness and the same goes for Marchesa (who ideally I would love to have design my wedding dress if a) i'm rich enough when the day arrives and b) the day ever arrives!) this red lace gown that she wore just, personally, did not tick the boxes Usually I go gaga over Marchesa's flowy fabrics that exhume grecian goddess glamour however this was just a big no no even if being lace and bang on trend bright colour. Surely celeb folk would have learnt from the Rihanna faux pas at the MET ball a couple of weeks ago, and if not them at least their stylists. Obviously not!

wednesday wants #3

Quite shocked at the amount of things I actually liked whilst browsing the River Island website today. It's probably my least favourite shop on the high street considering most of the time you can tell when certain items are from there and near enough everyone you see on the high street is walking around wearing River Island. But upon taking a look I found quite a few things (understatement) that I really like. One thing I have always noticed about River Island is the quality of their bags and shoes. Their accessories are always really good, and they host a great selection of different pieces from the understated all the way to the chavvy diamante. One of my absolute favourites from the chosen above is the skater skirt. The pattern is so daring yet not due to the choice colours. I think it would go perfectly with the tobacco vest and tan sandals pictured.

Beauty Tuesday #2

Split ends, everyone suffers from them but hopefully with today's tips you can learn how to get rid of them or at least curb them for a little while longer before your next trip to the hair dressers.

It's easy to say the way to get rid of split ends is by having regular trims or use conditioner every time you wash your hair in order to keep it hydrated and healthy but sometimes human nature and laziness can often get the better of us. If not that then lack of funds, something as a student I am so very familiar with, is in abundance.



So apart from that here are some tips that I've found:

#1. Never brush your hair when went because it is more vulnerable to splitting.

#2. Minimize the use of heat appliences such as straighteners and curling irons.

#3. Olive oil. Sure it doesn't sound very appealing but by rubbing it into the ends of your hair two times a week it not only nourishes it but puts much needed hydration back into the strands.
