wednesday wants #15 - the ankle boot

Hello all! This is the first time that I've decided to do a shoe in my "wednesday wants" segment. Considering we are on the cusp of autumn I thought it was the perfect time to show how you can wear a boot like this. Dorothy Perkins appear to be upping their game lately and this is why I've chose their boot - by incorporating a brogue feel to the style it looks vintage chic and comfortable all at the same time. Taking key colours of yellow and green and letting them rest against black and gold rounds of the outfit whilst making them stand out and steal the show.

Pairing polar opposites can often work especially in the case of floral prints and leather. Contrasting colours that pop, like green and mustard yellow, allows the black background to work well and give thought effect.

3. jeans
4. cardigan
5. pearl studs

Outfit number two is definitely my favourite out of all three in this weeks post. I really enjoy the simplicity of the outfit. It does the job in creating a feature out of the boots giving them a rocky edge and allowing them to shine. Using the pearls softens the harsh choppiness of cropped top and jean and adds girly to rocky.

This outfit is a transition outfit, incorporating bare legs with cardigan and socks - perfect for autumn months when they weather can drastically change from cold to hot and vice versa. The coral cardigan sits against the geometric pattern perfectly due to the colour being injected into said pattern - picking out certain colours and matching other items to this can complete any outfit perfectly.

*EDIT* I'm currently working on the layout. Hopefully everyone is liking what they are seeing so far, I've still got to figure out how to make my actual blog space wider as I am aware that half of the pictures are getting cut off... Fingers crossed I see where the coding is going wrong. Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!

*EDIT-EDIT* DONE! So chuffed with the new layout... Some minor changes to add still like date and changing of links but I think I need to research further into that... AKA ask my brother haha! (And read some books/internet docs) Enjoy!

my week in pics #10.

This isn't exactly a week in pics because during the week (or should I say weeks) not a lot of interesting stuff has taken place. However I did take a few pictures of stuff along the way hence today's post.

top: forever 21
shorts: new look
tights: topshop
nails: rimmel - rapid ruby

As promised here is an ~*OOTD*~ post. I know the weather's been changing but to be honest I haven't left the house all day and this was something that I could easily pull on and photograph. I did have a large beige cable knit cardigan over the top of this outfit because to be honest I'm not the most confident when it comes to my body so essentially baring my arms and legs is a no go.

I actually love this top from forever 21, the only thing that I can critique about it is that the length is crop - so if I were ever to wear it out I would always have to stick it with something high waisted. Top knots are a godsend of late and my hair is never out of them but only because I really want to cut it off. I'm thinking of having it cut to my shoulders or having a lot of layers cut in to thin it out again. It's just one length at the moment, boring and I'm over it. Time for a change, maybe?

sunday snap #43.

#1. Another Sunday that has been filled with laying in, reading and generally wasting a day. I think this is what Sunday's were made for though right? A chance to recharge your batteries for the coming week. On saying that they are the most boring days in the week... You can't win.

#2. The last of the autumn/winter trends went out this week and I have to say I enjoyed posting them and picking out items that are already available on the high street so we can start stocking up and making a wardrobes fit to burst come winter time. I can't say I'm going to be "following" all of them, some of them really stick out to me like colour, heritage, and girl-boy.

#3. When I started to take this blog into a fashion direction I firstly wanted to post outfits - not in vain way but to sort of watch my style, body etc... change. Recently that has been lacking and I'm sorry about that, hopefully next week I'll post up some OOTD and that the constant "fashion writing" simmers out slightly. I know a blog is meant to be personal and OOTD are a way in which you can make that much more personal... I promise I'll get back to that.

#4. I watched The Inbetweeners this week and I have to say it was funny... Not quite as hilarious as the television series but it still had me laughing away in the cinema. The queues were ridiculous to see it though, as expected and me and my friend naughtily pushed to the front by our friends who got there earlier but oh well! (I just know I'm going to get some bad karma for that or something... It'll catch up with me in the end!) I couldn't get over how much nudity was actually in the movie though... I didn't know whether to laugh or sit there open mouthed because of the shock - in the end I did both!

#5. Really obsessed with leopard print, or "wah inspired" nails and with help of the lovely Gem I've figured out how to get the look! Definitely check out her blog and try the idea out for yourself!

warehouse autumn/winter 11 wants.

Warehouse released their take on autumn/winter fashion this year and I have to say that I actually was gripped by many of their created looks. From all their eight looks I picked one from each that I really liked and decided to create a remake using not only their store but other High Street stores too showing what was on offer across the board.

I have to say I am incredibly excited for Autumn/Winter fashion to return. It is my favourite time of year and I adore the colours that are boasted and used during the cooler months. There is nothing like finding a coat or cardigan that you can live in, be comfortable and warm and still feel and be fashionable all at the same time.

AW11 trends #11: girl boy

khaki jacket
white blouse

Oversize is key here to give a shapeless, boy figure, that is boxy and structured at the same time.

wednesday wants #14 - the black vest.

Welcome to another Wednesday Wants and again I have decided to style a classic item that many of you are most likely to already have in your wardrobe. A camisole or vest top should be something that you can throw on and still look great whether it's underneath a sheer blouse or just on its own. Any black vest will do, and remember this is just an interpretation on how I would/do wear a black vest if I feel daring enough to show that much skin or just want something easy to wear without having to put too much thought into an outfit.

For the use of this post the vest that I am using is from dorothy perkins and costs a cheap £5.00. To view the vest look here.

denim shorts
floppy hat
tan boots
leopard scarf

khaki skinnies
cardigan
white pumps

watercolour maxi skirt

AW11 trends #10: LA vintage

Main stream 70s is key here with light fabrics that give free movement and flows, falls against the body smoothly and looks expensive all at the same time.

sunday snap #42.

#1. As you can most likely tell I really didn't fancy putting up a portrait of my entire face this sunday. I'm feeling blah about absolutely everything this week... I don't know maybe I'm just sick of having nothing to do. Money is lacking, I'm over summer because we don't have it anyway and I don't know I actually (in a way) can't wait to go back to Uni because then I'll actually have something to do!

#2. Catching up with blogs this week has made me want to change my "theme" if you want to call it that. One blog in particular this one have made me really want get back into web design and graphics because appearance can be everything... Maybe not all the time, but most of the time. So over the next couple of weeks I think I'll be hitting the library and reading up on coding and everything. ~GEEK 4 LYF~

#3. I've been reading a Sophie Kinsella book this week called Mini Shopaholic and I think it's safe to say that I've had too much of a chick-lit over load. I really cannot get into the book. I think the problem is that I can't see where the story is heading and I'm already on chapter eight, usually the books pick up halfway through and this just doesn't seem to be the case with Mini Shopaholic. I don't know whether to leave it and read another or hold strong and give it a chance. Sigh. I must say though that I have really found my love of reading once again and I don't think that's a bag thing!

#4. Lastly boybands, my craze for them has returned and when I say boybands I mean "proper" ones for the 90's etc... Of course Backstreet Boys but in particular Westlife! I have not stopped listening to Westlife at all this week, its actually stupid. I've played their albums and even turned to youtube to remind my inner 8 year old self what it was like to actually watch them. It's mad when you think about it considering I turn 20 this year, how much a group of lads can affect your life. I loved Westlife, and in all honesty still do, they had so many great hits and I think it's time I actually see them live considering I've been a fan since 1999. Maybe the greatest hits tour can be a present for my 20th/21st birthday - why not?!

AW11 trends #9: fetish

mesh dress
trousers
leather dress

Not to everyone's taste this trend is a twist on the classic black outfit that if undertaken would give you an edge.

trendy tie dye.

Fitting perfectly into the crazy prints and ridiculous colours the tie dye trend fits perfectly into the 70s bohemian free spirited fashion. Shaping up to be the coolest mini-trend of the summer, expect to see tie dye floating around a lot of festivals (if you haven't seen it already) especially with its long associated history with long-haired flower children. Whether you opt for a head-to-toe look or a simple one off piece remember to layer either with a parka for a cool casual look or contrasting accessories to be daring.

tie dye leggings
tie dye scarf
tie dye cami
tie dye blouson

AW11 trends #8: mod squad

cream shift dress
camel mini skirt
green polka dot shift dress
t-bar sandals
collared shirt

Perfect to pick up now the mod trend is something that can easily be carried through from SS11 to AW11 by the use of my favourite accessory the black tight.

wednesday wants #13 - the trench coat.

Hello all! Another Wednesday Wants today and this time I'm talking about the classic trench coat. Most likely more a British girls must have, especially with our ever changing weather, the trench is a staple to any wardrobe. Sometimes overlooked due to the classic colour and shape, which can be taken as being plain, I hope this weeks Wednesday Wants can somehow tempt you in either buying a classic mac or restoring an old one (or one of Mom's) to it's former glory.

The trench I have used today is from Miss Selfridge and costs 75£ which is a tad pricey but in order for something to become a classic and last it is better, most time anyway, to splash out a little bit more on an item for this to happen. You can take a look at the item here. However if this slightly too pricey there are an abundance of different styles on the high street covering a manner of different prices also, just take a look for yourselves!

ballet shoes

denim shirt
khaki trousers
tan leather satchel
tan loafers

navy trousers
rust blouse
tan heeled shoes

AW11 trends #7: heritage

check dress
beige herringbone jacket
tweed jodhpurs
check shirt
tweed coat

Typical English is what springs to mind when this trend graced the catwalks of AW11. You can't beat a classic combination and clearly designers have caught onto that for the latter months of the year. Think country retreat meets Made In Chelsea and you're good to go!

sunday snap #41.

#1. I smashed the screen on my iPhone this week, it's such a bummer, especially because I've had that phone since I was seventeen and I've not smashed it once. Okay, I've dropped it a couple of times, everywhere, but to never have it break on me it lucky. Obviously too lucky! When I say dropped it everywhere, I mean everywhere, outside my local train stop and it hasn't cracked once. The one time I leave it on the arm rest of my couch and it falls onto the floor, face down and smashes, can you believe it! Hopefully I'll be able to get an upgrade for my 20th this year.

#2. I really think it's passed a joke how there are no jobs out there. I am sitting at home an wasting my time doing nothing and I would love a job. Most people my age can't be bothered to work but I would KILL for a job... Seriously even if its just a temporary job of some sort. Ideally I want to work in retail which means Christmas time is going to be my best friend because I'm gonna have to try my hardest to get a Christmas temp shop in one of my favourite high street stores if I can... Fingers crossed.

#3. Youtube Gurus have really been inspiring me this week, especially this one girl. I can't remember her name but she has the most amazing hair in her videos. I mean it is never the same, either she'll have it plaited in a grecian style or a really thick top knot (made me super jealous!). It just made me think that instead of spending a lot of money on clothes and things sometimes all people need to do take pride in their hair or makeup and its enough.

#4. The riots were ridiculous, I'm really glad they ended. It was horrible seeing a city that is so close to me getting smashed up. It was absolutely disgusting how people could do that and use the excuse that they are/were bored or don't have anything. In this day and age you don't get things for free, you have to make your own opportunities. I don't have a job and I finished my first year of Uni at the end of April but you don't see me smashing up shops and stealing, because their "excuse" (which is exactly that) is utter rubbish. I take it upon myself every day, if I can, to look for a job, try and find volunteer work to better myself and to show to an employee if that time ever comes when I do get a job/interview that no matter what was happening around me I was still determined enough to try and better myself. The people who were stealing are just thugs, opportunists, who should know better but sadly it appears don't. Poverty is no excuse for doing what you were doing, everyone is feeling the recession, particularly all working class families, so how dare they tar everyone with the same brush by using the current climate as an excuse - people should know the difference better right and wrong and it is wrong to loot, to steal. If you want something get off your backside and work for it like every other decent human being! My thoughts are with the people who have lost everything they own or loved ones and I hope that justice and the law prevails soon.

AW11 trends #6: the power jumper

'&' jumper
dark grey jumper
chunky lime jumper

Possibly one of my favourite trends for Autumn/Winter, the cuteness and sheer comfort of this trend is perfect for the cold that we are not doubt going to have in England. I'd pair my cream oversized '&' jumper with a pair of plain khaki leggings and my favourite tan boots for a clean, simple but bang on trend outfit of the moment.

denim day.

denim shirt: topshop
leggings: asos
earrings: topshop

I actually planned on posting these pictures before I went on holiday but I didn't get a chance so here you go. They are essentially a month late but oh well... I haven't worn this shirt in so long. I actually got it for free because the lady forgot to ring it through the till when I bought it a couple of years ago. I walked out the store none the wiser until I got home and realised when I checked the receipt. So I got a 32£ shirt for free, sometimes life is good.

The riots in London/Birmingham are so scary. To think that I live so close to Birmingham too and people are doing what they are is horrific! Sometimes I can't believe what this country is coming to.
