wednesday wants #5 - skater skirt

More and more recently I have noticed that the skater skirt has been gracing many high street stores both in hand and online. Being a favourite of mine I decided to see how I could style this item of clothing which appears a must have for spring/summer 2011.

1. River Island Pink Mini Skater Skirt £29.99
2. Miss Selfridge Light Wash Crop Denim Gilet £35.00
3. Topshop Off White Grosgrain Bow Vest £15.00
4. ASOS Pleat Corner Clutch £20.00
5. ASOS Woven Triangle Dreamcatcher Drop Earrings £10.00
6. Steve Madden Caged Shoes £58.00

One could easily say that skate style skirts are more about casual wear but when thrown together with other clothing items they can be turned into night wear. The length of the skirt is key to this as seen by this mini-length skater skirt by River Island. The pink mini would contrast well against bare legs or tights and when worn with a denim gilet gives more of and casual edgy look to an otherwise sleek, babydoll outfit.

1. River Island Pink Print Mid Length Skater Skirt £34.99
2. River Island White Cut Out Front Clutch Bag £26.99
3. Topshop Green Flecked Roll Sleeve Pocket Tee £15.00
4. Miss Selfridge Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses £10.00
5. Topshop Tabolt Off White Mesh High Top Trainers £20.00

A garden party or BBQ are where I always imagine I would wear a skater style skirt, especially one like this floral mid length item again from River Island. This style is easily one that can be dressed down with pumps and a cute t-shirt without looking like you have tried hard or not tried at all. The mid-length reveals enough leg without giving too much away and is definitely perfect for day wear, screaming spring/summer as it does.

1. Miss Selfridge Black Ponti Skater Skirt £24.00
2. Topshop Ivory Faux Leather Trim Boucle Jacket £65.00
3. River Island Light Cream Vest £19.99
4. River Island Black Mix Leather Satchel Bag £49.99
5. River Island Black Peep Toe Patent Court Shoes £39.99
6. River Island Black Pyramid Stud Earrings £5.99

Not only for causal style skater skirts could easily grace the office. The black colour is a staple and when teamed with this gorgeous tweed coat from Topshop, youthful sophistication lingers. Although to achieve this look I would say a neutral based palette is best as florals can often appear garish and almost too statement.
